Arjun fifth in Junior World Cup

CHANDIGARH: City shooter Arjun Babuta scored a total of 184.2 to finish fifth in the 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Suhl, Germany, today.

City shooter Arjun Babuta scored a total of 184.2 to finish fifth in the 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Suhl, Germany, today.

The 17-year old, who is a student of DAV College,  after leading in the initial stages of the final lost his way to fall behind eventual winner Miran Maricic of Croatia. 

Maricic shot 246.6 to fetch gold, while China’s Yukun Liu got the silver with a score of 246.5. Borna Petanjek, also from Croatia, had to satisfy with the bronze medal. He scored 225.8. Japan’s Atsushi Shimada finished 21.2 points ahead of Babuta to grab the fourth place. 

Babuta had earlier shot a score of 624.4 in the qualification round to make it to the eight-man final in seventh position.

Anish, Anhad, Shivam shoot bronze

Indian colts, however, continued to impress at the competition as the trio of Anish, Anhad Jawanda and Shivam Shukla clinched a bronze medal in men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event.

The trio notched up a combined score of 1711 to claim third place and take India’s overall tally from the competition to two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. India is currently positioned fourth in the medals tayyly. China with 12 medals leads the tally, while Russia is placed second with six medals.  

Anish had earlier also won the 25m Standard Pistol gold on the opening day of the competition.

Yesterday, Panchkula’s Yashaswini Singh Deswal had won the country its second gold of the competition by winning the 10m Air Pistol event.
