Mohali, June 21

After nearly four lakh persons claimed the ownership of around 400 acres at Masol village, Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gurpreet kaur Sapra asked the Kharar SDM to procure all revenue records related to the land in question within next week.

“We will go through the records related to the land. Even the old and new jamabandis will also be compared,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

Notably, nearly four lakh persons have claimed the ownership of the land where unique fossils were found by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The ‘oldest’ fossils found here are said to be dating back to  2.6 million years. Earlier, the excavation at the site was carried out by a joint team of Indian and French archaeologists, which had found 1,500 fossils.

The population of the village is around 300. “We are also surprised how such a big number of people are claiming the land,” the DC said. — TNS
