2-year old gets fingers crushed in Metro vending machine

A two-year-old girl's fingers got crushed in a vending machine which was being repaired at the Uttam Nagar East Metro station on march 9. The incident happened due to the sheer negligence of the DMRC.

The girl had to undergo a surgery.

The girl's father lodged a complaint on March 18 at the Metro Police Station against the DMRC.

According to sources, both the DMRC and the police are investigating the matter.

Amit Saksena, a resident of Santosh Park in Uttam Nagar, said in his complaint that on March 9 around 4.30, he was getting recharged his Metro card. Meanwhile, his wife and two-year-old daughter were also present at the Metro station.

Both mother and daughter were standing near the machine that was getting repaired. The girl had put her hand on the machine. The engineer didn't notice it and closed the machine in hurry due which girl's two fingers got crushed in it. 

She was crying as her hand was bleeding profusely.

Saksena said his daughter was merely given first-aid as he requested the Metro authorities to take her to hospital for proper treatment. But, the Metro station controller didn’t make any arrangement to take the girl to the hospital.

The father took the girl to Mata Chana Devi Hospital where she was operated upon. The condition of the girl's hand is stated to be bad. Doctors suggested another surgery, Saksena said.

After the surgery on March 11, Saksena called at the DMRC helpline number but he didn’t get any response. On March 13, he again went to the DMRC station controller and asked to take legal action against the negligence.

On March 14, when Saksena wanted to take update in the matter, station controller told him that he would get the reply on his email from the DMRC. But till date, no response has reached the victim's family. Therefore, on the basis of girl's medical report the police registered the matter.

According to a DMRC spokesperson, the matter is being investigated. They trying to find out whether there was any negligence on the part of the engineer . Whatever is required will be done under the DMRC Act of Operation and Maintenance Act.
