The Bijli Mazdoor Ekta Union has lodged a protest against the alleged lackadaisical attitude of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) towards the treatment of an outsourced employee who fell from an electricity pole in Dharamsala on Monday.

Pawan Kumar, state president of the union, on Wednesday alleged that Shashi Kumar, an untrained non-technical employee, was deployed for repairing a power supply line. However, he fell from the pole after an electric shock.

Shashi Kumar has been rendering his services as an outsourced employee for some time. He was rushed to the Tanda medical college. He has sustained a fracture in the spine and his condition is stated to be critical.

Pawan Kumar urged the government to ensure the safety of all outsourced employees engaged by private contractors in HPSEB.

The union president demanded that the treatment cost should either be borne by HPSEBL or the private contractor who had hired his services.
