In 2016, a fall was witnessed in cases related to economic offences in the city. While 372 cases were registered in 2015, the number of cases in 2016 was 210 only.

This came to light after the release of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report recently. As per the report, 188 cases of cheating and 22 cases of the criminal breach of trust were registered in Chandigarh.

The NCRB report reveals that in five cases, the loss of property was Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore. In three cases, the loss of property was between Rs 10 crore to Rs 25 crores while in two cases, the loss of property was between Rs 25 crore to 50 crore.

Similarly, in one case registered for the criminal breach of trust, the loss of property was between Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore. Though lesser number of cases were reported in the city, the burden on the cops didn’t subside as 490 pending cases had to be investigated by them in addition to the cases registered in 2016.

At the end of the year, 469 cases were left pending and 231 were disposed of.
