Moga, April 30

A day before the expiry of the six-month deadline for getting elected, Uttar Pradesh Jails Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia has been nominated to the UP Legislative Council for six years.

Hailing from Ramoowala village in Moga district, he had joined Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s team on October 31 last year after quitting the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. Talking to The Tribune today, Ramoowalia said he had been nominated in the social services category by Governor Ram Naik. On speculation that he may broker an alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the SAD in the 2017 UP Assembly polls, Ramoowalia denied such a move.
