Observer, district officials visit Shahkot

JALANDHAR: The General Observer for Elections, Ravi Kant Jain, along with Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, visited the Shahkot Assembly segment to take stock of arrangements at the ground level on Tuesday.

The General Observer for Elections, Ravi Kant Jain, along with Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, visited the Shahkot Assembly segment to take stock of arrangements at the ground level on Tuesday.

During a review meeting with local officials, the Observer, Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police had detailed parleys with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jasjit Singh and other officials regarding the coming byelection for the Shahkot Assembly segment. They scrutinised the entire arrangements for the bypoll and told the officials to ensure its strict compliance. They had detailed discussions regarding the vulnerability mapping of the entire Assembly segment.

The officials said six static surveillance teams and three flying squad teams had been constituted to keep a strict vigil on the law and order situation in the segment. The officials said the identification of sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths was already being done and adequate security arrangements would be made for these areas. They also said that the officials must ensure strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct during the bypoll. They said any violation of the Code of Conduct should be dealt with sternly. They said that preventive action must be taken against miscreants or any anti-social elements, if any, during the poll. They said strict vigil must be kept over such elements in the Assembly segment to ensure peaceful and transparent poll. The Observer, Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police told all officials to take confidence-building measures in these identified vulnerable areas for free and fair polls.

Later the Observer, Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police interacted with the static surveillance team and flying squad team in Shahkot.

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police Balwinder Iqbal Singh Kahlon, Dilbagh Singh and Mukesh, besides others.
