ZIRAKPUR: Zirakpur town, known as the gateway of Punjab, will be renovated and a new look will be provided to its entry points and for complete redressal of water stagnation, proper arrangements for drainage of storm water will be done.

Zirakpur town, known as the gateway of Punjab, will be renovated and a new look will be provided to its entry points and for complete redressal of water stagnation, proper arrangements for drainage of storm water will be done.

This was stated by former Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur in Zirakpur after she inaugurated beautification work under the Zirakpur flyover.

Addressing mediapersons, Preneet Kaur said the beautification work being carried out by the District Administration in association with the Zirakpur Municipal Council would provide a new look to the flyover and will add to the aesthetics.

She stated that the completion of this work would provide a huge relief to the people as public toilets would be constructed and proper places would be identified for parking of police vehicles.

Also sounding the poll bugle for the Lok Sabha elections, Preneet said the Congress would make a clean sweep in the elections.

Exuding confidence that people were aware of the efficient administration provided by the Congress in the past one and a half years, Preneet exhorted the party workers and candidates to work hard in order to root out the SAD-BJP completely in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. She also advised them not to indulge in corrupt practices and vendetta rather they should adopt agenda of development. The former minister assured that she would ensure funds for developments.

Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, said estimated expenditure for the beautification work under the Zirakpur flyover will be Rs 2.7 crore. The work would be accomplished with the cooperation of the district administration and the Municipal Council.

She said a total of 2.7-km span under the Zirakpur flyover would be beautified. The entire work will be carried out by splitting the work into 4 zones, which are transit-oriented, including landscape and utilities, landscape with minimal pedestrian movement, promenade, art installation and consolidated space for landscape and public use.

Deepinder Singh Dhillon, president, District Congress Committee, Pooja Syal, SDM, Dera Bassi, and several senior Congress party workers were present on the occasion.
