Over 100 saplings planted by NGO

AMRITSAR: The city-based NGO, Voice of Amritsar, carried out a plantation drive at Government Senior Secondary School at Varpal village on Sunday.

The city-based NGO, Voice of Amritsar, carried out a plantation drive at Government Senior Secondary School at Varpal village on Sunday. Around 100 trees were planted on the school premises by children in association with members of the VOA.

Students and teachers of the school promised to take care of the saplings and maintain them. VOA members Gaurav Arora and Amandeep Singh, who spearheaded the campaign, said their focus was to make sure that a maximum number of saplings survive.

Balbir Randhawa, a former hockey Olympian associated with the VOA, said the NGO would spread the message of environment conservation amongst students every Sunday.

He said people would be made aware of the importance and advantages of medicinal and fruit trees. The team also assured the school authorities to provide aftercare to the saplings, said VOA founder member Dr Rakesh Sharma.

Others present in the drive included Seenu Arora, Rajwinderpal Sharma, Amandeep Singh, Rishabh Seth, Arvinder Bhullar, Pryanka Mahajan, Simarjot, Davinder Singh Kamboj, Amandeep Singh, Dr Prabhjot Kaur and Dibjot Kaur.
