Bathinda, March 30
Hundreds of members from Bahujan Samaj Party, district unit staged a protest outside mini secretariat against the Supreme Court’s verdict on dilution of SC/ST Act. The protestors raised slogans against the union government and demanded that the decision be reviewed on immediate basis.
The protestors gathered at a park in front of the secretariat premises and then carried out a march rally on Bathinda-Mansa road. As the protestors had covered half of the road while moving, they also caused obstruction for the vehicle occupants but traffic cops deployed on duty managed to contain the situation on time.
Rashpal Singh, president of the BSP, state unit, said, “The dilution of SC/ST act would mean depriving those who are already deprived. It would further increase atrocities on ‘dalits’ and people from marginalized sections of society. We demand that union government must review the decision and revoke it immediately to ensure harmonious atmosphere for all.”
He said, “We demand the bill for reservation of promotion be passed in Lok Sabha soon. EVM machines must be boycotted and replaced with ballot paper for elections. Small scale traders must be exempted from GST and educated youth must be provided with employment or allowance for unemployment.”
