Continuing its drive against property tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued attachment notices to the Punjab Congress Bhawan, Sector 15, and the office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Sector 30 here.

Sources said notices had been issued after the management of both the party offices failed to pay property tax dues for years.

The notice issued to the Punjab Congress Bhawan mentioned that the record shows that the occupier has failed to deposit tax to the tune of Rs 8,84,053 despite having been given various opportunities.

The notices have been issued under Section 138 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, which power to the MC Commissioner to attach the defaulters’ property.

The MC asked the management of the offices to remove the belongings within 15 days or the same will be confiscated.

As per law, the sealing notice is a last opportunity for property owners to pay tax. In case of non-payment, the MC holds the right to seal the building till the account is not settled.

Meanwhile, sealing notice has also been issued to the Communist Party of India’s office in Sector 30 for not paying property tax of Rs 13 lakh.
