UNA, JULY 26
On the occasion of Vijay Divas, Rural Development minsier Virender Kanwar and BJP state president Satpal Singh Satti laid wreaths at the war memorial situated in the municipal park in Una city and paid respects to the brave soldiers who had laid down their lives fighting the enemy.
Of the 88 soldiers from Una district, who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation till date since Independence, two had laid down their lives during the Kargil war. They are Capt Amol Kalia, who was posthumously awarded Vir Chakra and Rifleman Manohar Lal.
Later, a district level function to remember the martyrs was held at Bachat Bhawan where Virender Kanwar said the state government has decided to open war museums in every district of the state. He said Pakistan’s misadventures had been crushed every time by our brave soldiers.
Satpal Satti said since Pakistan now understands that it cannot face a conventional war against India, it has launched a proxy war with the support of militant organisations.
He said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement in the USA that 40,000 militants were getting shelter in their country was adequate proof that Pakistan was harbouring terrorists.

- The names of the Kargil martyrs would be etched on the walls of the memorial structure, he said.
- A piece of land in the city had already been identified for the purpose. “Soldiers from Uttarakhand made the supreme sacrifice for the nation in all wars, a fact which prompted PM Narendra Modi to use a sobriquet like ‘sainya dham’ for the state,” the CM said. PTI
