‘Hope Kartarpur ushers in peace on both sides’

NEW DELHI:Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir NN Vohra and noted journalist Mark Tully on Friday expressed the hope that Kartarpur Sahib corridor would usher in peace on both sides of the border.

New Delhi, October 4

Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir NN Vohra and noted journalist Mark Tully on Friday expressed the hope that Kartarpur Sahib corridor would usher in peace on both sides of the border.

The latter inaugurated an exhibition titled “Rabab to Nagaara: Life and Legacy of Guru Nanak” on the 550th birth anniversary of the Guru at India International Centre (IIC) here. The event was hosted by the National Institute of Panjab Studies, Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan.

The former J&K Governor said the exhibition depicted the evolution of the history of North India. He hoped that Kartarpur Sahib corridor would lead to peace with neighbours so that resources were deployed for countering disease and poverty instead of fighting wars.

Dr Mohinder Singh,  National Institute of Panjab Studies, regretted that there were only celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak and “no academic work.” He pointed out that while there was no golden ‘palki (resting place for Guru Granth Sahib)’ at Darbar Sahib, “we are ferrying one to Nankana Sahib.”  He said rare books on Guru Gobind Singh’s era were missing. “Today there is no money for Guru Nanak studies in universities,” he lamented. — TNS
