Shimla, February 26

Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma today said in case elections to any sports body have not been held as per schedule, the department would intervene. Replying to a query by Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania during the Question Hour, Goma said the registration of sports bodies was done by the Cooperatives Department and the Sports Department only gave affiliation. Pathania pointed out that the recommendations of the Lodha committee must be enforced in all sports bodies. He also sought details of how many sportspersons were heading sports bodies.

An amount of Rs 15 lakh is provided for developing one ground in every Assembly segment and the sports facilities and infrastructure is being strengthened, Goma said adding that in the Budget, the Chief Minister had announced major hike in the award money for medal winners in the Olympics, Commonwealth and Asian Games.

Replying to a query on e-vehicles by Sullah MLA DS Thakur, Vipin Parmar, Bikram Singh and Chaitnaya Sharma during the Question Hour, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani said under the Rajiv Gandhi e-taxi startup scheme, 500 persons would ill be given permits.

“The main criteria for eligibility is that the candidate should be a Himachali unemployed youth. Under the first phase, 500 taxis will be hired,” the minister said. He said out of the 3,200 fleet of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), there are 110 electric buses.

“A sum of Rs 28 lakh has been saved due to switchover to electric vehicles from diesel and petrol vehicles,” he said. He said e-taxis would be engaged by various departments so that the unemployed youth can get income.

Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani informed the House that a total of 20 charging stations had been made functional in the state. Sites had been identified for setting up of charging stations at Chamba and Banikhet.
