Ludhiana, March 1
Avikash Singh, a student at the College of Agriculture, created a new record in the 100-metre sprint at the 57th Annual Athletics Meet of Punjab Agricultural University on Thursday. He clocked 10.9 seconds to establish a new meet record. The existing record of 11 seconds was set at the 1995-96 meet.
The students from all the on-campus colleges of the university — College of Horticulture and Forestry, the College of Agriculture, the College of Agricultural Technology and Technology, the College of Humanities, and the College of Community Science — participated in the meet along with the off-campus colleges — College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri, and the outstation Institutes of Agriculture at Bathinda and Gurdaspur.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora declared the meeting open. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal was the guest of honour at the event. — OC

Women’s javelin throw: Sushil Grewal (COA) 1st, Jasleen Kaur (COA) 2nd, and Tanushree Ghosh (COA) 3rd.
1,500m race: Harmeet Kaur (COBSH) 1st, Haritha M (COH&F) 2nd, and Arundhati Dogra (COA) 3rd.
Broad jump: Haritha M (COH&F) 1st, Riya Mariya Francis (COA) 2nd, and Amanjot Kaur (COH&F) 3rd.
High jump: Haritha (COH&F) 1st, Manjot Kaur (COA) 2nd, and Bhawana (COAET) 3rd.
