Biggest spike of 25 Covid cases in a day in Ludhiana district

Ludhiana, June 12

Ludhiana district today saw the highest spike in Covid-19 cases. As many as 27 persons tested positive, of which 25 belong to Ludhiana.

Most of the cases reported today are from the two containment zones. At Chowni Mohalla, four persons tested positive, including a three-year-old girl child.

Three cases were reported from Islam Ganj and as many from Field Ganj. These areas were declared a containment zone today.

Five persons were found infected at Prem Nagar. They are all contacts of a Covid patient from Islam Ganj. Besides,

two sisters, one about two year old and the other 12 years of age, tested positive at Noorwala.

Two cases were reported from private labs at Kidwai Nagar and Basti Jodhewal.

The positive cases include a 27-year-old man from Delhi.

Meanwhile, one more containment zone was declared in the district which includes three areas of Habib Ganj, Islam Ganj and Sensi Mohalla.

The number of cases reported from these areas is 17. The area to be sealed was demarcated today by the police and officials of the Health Department. The entrance to this containment zone will be near Shani Mandir and exit at the lane opposite a petrol station.

“We have received seven cases from Habib Ganj, six from Sensi Mohalla and four from Islam Ganj, which makes a total of 17. Since all three areas are close by, these have been put in a single containment zone,” said the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga.

“Only medical emergency and essential services will be provided in these areas. The area has 700 houses and a population of around 4,600. If anyone is found infected, he or she will be immediately shifted to a health centre,” said the District Epidemiologist, Dr Ramesh.

Jalandhar woman succumbs at DMCH

Meanwhile, a 67-year-old woman from Jalandhar died at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) last night. She was admitted to the hospital on June 5 and her test came positive the next day. She was a heart patient and a diabetic too.

Police Dept collecta samples of front-line warriors

The Police Department has started collecting the samples of its front-line personnel. Nearly 200 samples of police personnel were collected today. A total of 584 samples have been collected under regular screening so far.

On Thursday, a 24-year-old constable posted at the Division 2 police station tested positive. He was asymptotic and his sample was taken during regular sampling of police personnel.

“We are collecting the sample of every police personnel who is on front-line,” said ADCP Sachin Gupta.
