The Court of Additional Sessions Judge KK Jain today convicted Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Lambardar Da Vehra, Barewal Awana, Ludhiana, on the charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 10 years.

The court has also ordered Rakesh to pay a fine of Rs 1,10,000, out of which Rs 1 lakh would be paid to the victim as compensation. A case against the accused was registered at Sarabha Nagar Police Station on January 18, 2019, on the statement of the father of the victim.

He had stated in his complaint that his daughter had gone to relieve herself but did not come back. They searched for her but to no avail. So, a case was registered and the girl was recovered. The accused was apprehended two days later. After perusing the evidence on record, the court found him guilty and sentenced him.
