As board examination dates approach near, students are caught in the web of implicit fear, unnecessary anxiety and strain. The experts recommend that instead of setting unrealistic goals, students should make realistic plans and keep a positive mindset while preparing for their exams.

“Unrealistic self-imposed lofty goals for high marks, impractical expectations and undue pressure by parents, peer competition and misplaced ambitions to outperform others are some of the aspects that mount undue nervousness and over burdening. It is high time that students face examinations as a challenge in a positive manner and not as an event that scars them,” said AF Pinto, chairman, Ryan International Group of Institutions.

Often, excessive anxiety is also related to lack of self-motivation, self-confidence and preparedness. “Before starting their studies, students should first sit and relax for ten minutes and mediate. Meditation means sitting quietly for few minutes without thinking anything or taking any pressure. It will help them to start their studies on a positive note,” said a city-based yoga expert.

City-based diet and nutrition expert Khushboo said while preparing for exams, students often indulge in binge eating and end up consuming unhealthy food. “They should keep a bottle of water, some fruits and a few nuts with them so that whenever they feel like binging, they end up eating something healthy rather than gulping down chips and colas,” she said.

“Draw energy and inspiration to remain focused. Turn your anxiety into positive motivation and do not get bogged down by exams. Be positive while you approach not only exams but also any challenge in life. You will only grow stronger and emerge victorious. With your hard work, determination and effort you will be a proud winner,” said a city-based educationist.
