Patiala, January 21
No respite seems to be in sight from the ongoing cold wave. After a brief period of sunshine over the last few days, the cold wave struck hard today, with the maximum temperature falling to 10.7°C, seven degrees below normal.
The whole district was affected by fog in the morning and a cloud cover made life uncomfortable for residents later in the day.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 5°C. Adding to the residents’ woes was the bone-chilling wind. The Meteorological Department said the conditions would be the same on Monday, forecasting dense fog and severe cold.
The residents have been facing the brunt of intense cold for nearly a month now. Data from the Meteorological Department Observatory in Patiala indicated that between December 25 and January 15, only 12 days of sunshine were observed.
January 14 recorded the maximum sunshine at 5.4 hours, while the least was registered on January 12. From January 4 to 9, the city experienced six consecutive days of cloudy skies, and from January 10 to January 13, the residents enjoyed only eight minutes of sunshine in total.
