Chandigarh, August 25

Presiding over a meeting with the ‘Khet Mazdoor Jathebandian da Sanjha Morcha’, Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra today promised the representatives that all their demands would be addressed on priority basis after discussion with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

On the issue of three farm laws, Brahm Mohindra said the government opposed the Acts and firmly stood by the farmers. He said a resolution rejecting the agricultural laws unanimously passed by the Vidhan Sabha was held up with the authorities concerned for onward transmission to the Centre.

Detailed discussions were held on hassle-free distribution of ration cards, apprehensions over labour codes, loan waiver, restoration of electricity connections as well as correction in power bills, effective implementation of MGNREGA, revision of old-age pension and allotment of residential plots from panchayati land to the landless SC/ST and other poor sections of society.

On the direction of the Local Government Minister, a meeting of the Sanjha Morcha was also fixed for September 7 in Mohali for sorting out the allotment of 5-marla residential plots and other related issues of the landless labourers.

Mohindra further directed all department heads concerned to address the issues raised in the meeting in a time-bound manner. — TNS

Power connections will be restored

Lachhman Singh Sewewal, a farm labourer leader, claimed the government had agreed to restore the disconnected power meters of farm labourers and there would be no more disconnections for those who cannot pay their bills
