A film that focuses on the lives of three young people, their hopes, dreams, aspirations and choices they make to achieve them. ‘Jindua’ is directed by Navaniat Singh, the maker of ‘Mel Karade Rabba’, ‘Singh vs Kaur’ and ‘Shareek’, which was received with critical acclaim upon release.

Navniat said after an emotionally draining film like ‘Shareek’, ‘Jindua’ would be a breath of fresh air. He said ‘Shareek’ was a film high on emotions and drama. Its characters were layered and entire mood of the film was quite draining, he added. He said, “So, we wanted to come out with a light film. ‘Jindua’ is a romantic comedy that has three different characters and a good script.”

‘Jindua’ is his fifth collaboration with Jimmy Shergill. Navniat says that he has not seen anyone more dedicated and hard working than his favourite muse.

He said, “Jimmy gives his 100 per cent to each character he plays on screen. He gives time to the character to develop and as a director you get exactly what you perceived. He brings in a wide contrast to every role he plays through his dedication.”

As for ‘Jindua’, the director claims it does not shout out messages from roof tops. “It’s a film that is based on love, emotions, values and relationships. The characters are all based overseas. It shows how they cross paths and their lives change. It is a simple film,” he added.

Being one of the celebrated directors in Punjabi film industry, Navniat feels that Bollywood’s encroachment in the regional industry might not be good news. He said, “I feel that big names of Bollywood will not help the industry in a positive way as they will never be able to judge the market requirements as regional talent. Off late, a lot of Punjabi films despite having some Bollywood actor or production house’s association have not fared well. Punjabi tadka in Bollywood films might work, but in Punjabi films, you have to be true to the cultural and cinematic needs of the audience concerned.” ‘Jindua’ is set for release on March 17.
