A city woman, Sangeeta Sodhi (58), was honoured with a state-level award for donating blood for 43 times by Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu in Barnala on National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Friday.
Sangeeta Sodhi said: “I am blessed to have the blood group AB- , which is rare. I am an emergency blood donor and have donated blood for 43 times till now.”
She said an organisation, of which she was a member, held blood donation camps every year on January 26 and they had been doing this for the past 25 years with an aim to encourage young girls and ladies to donate blood.
Sangeeta said donating blood was much easier than offering water to a thirsty person.
“There is a great need to create awareness in society about the noble cause. I am on a mission to spread the message in any manner, be it cycling, seminars or lectures,” she said.
