Sabyasachi Mukherji interacts with city-based designers at fashion show

If you thought that Sabyasachi Mukherji, the go-to designer for Bollywood’s leading ladies and A-listers, became a sensation overnight, you must have a glance at his journey so far. Speaking as a mentor at the FICCI FLO Amritsar’s fashion show at a city hotel, the ace designer, who has recently given us three biggest Bollywood brides as fashion inspiration, said that when he started, the fashion industry was not as known as it is today.

“When I started, there were no fashion bloggers, no fashion journalism, no critics. For a person to come from a completely non-fashion background, it was a very different experience to settle down in the fashion industry,” said Sabyasachi. Interacting with the young designers from the city, he stressed that one has always have a unique, individual touch to the clothes and designs in order to stand out. “One should never lose their individual style. One of my biggest inspirations is Rekha ji. She has always managed to set standards for herself and others, yet never most her personal style.” Sabhaysachi will showcase his heritage jewellery collection at an exhibition to be held under FICCI FLO.

The fashion event by FICCI FLO had 80 women from the city taking to the ramp in collections by city-based designers, including Bonita Khanna, Himanshi Arora and others. The event showcased budding makeup artists and entrepreneurs from the city as well, who were guided by industry experts, including Ambika Anand and fashion choreographer Vahbiz Mehta.

Styles and trends were also highlighted. Monika Kashyap, makeup artist from the city, said that trend for the season is the Lahori look. “The subtle, luminescent makeup, with highlights on cheeks and nude eyes is quite a rage. Add to it a traditional passa, and the Lahori look is complete.” As for the clothes, pastels dominated the ramp with intricate hand embroideries and traditional cuts.
