Several organisations, after a meeting, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner’s office against the proposed Punjab Control of Organised Crime Act (PCOCA). The members were led by Chaman Lal Darajke and other representatives of a number of organisations.

Daljit Singh Dialpura, a representative, said the memorandum was addressed to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister and the Governor of the state, terming the Act as anti-democracy as it gave more powers to the police that could be misused. He said the state had sufficient laws to curb the anti-social elements and there was a lack of will power to implement it.

The representatives of the Zamhoori Kisan Sabha, Dehati Mazdoor Sabha, Punjab Students Federation and others participated in the meeting. They stressed that the PCOCA would be misused to curb the voice of the organisations struggling for the rights of the people.

Naib Tehsildar Jagmohan Singh received the memorandum on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner.
