It appeared that the intervention of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has resolved the differences between the majority of the local MLAs and party candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla.

It has been learnt that a meeting was held to discuss the poll campaigning wherein party leaders expressed solidarity in support of Aujla.

The sitting MP had hosted dinner at his place for the MLAs and party leaders which was attended by Cabinet ministers Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, OP Soni, besides MLAs Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Tarsem Singh DC, Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Sunil Dutti, Raj Kumar Verka, district rural president Bhagwantpal Singh Sachar, and former MLA Sawinder Singh Kathunangal.

Earlier, some of the MLAs had distanced themselves from Aujla after his name was finalised for the Amritsar seat as they too were in the race. While the CM was in Amritsar to lead the candle march as part of a programme to commemorate the Jallianwala Bagh massacre centenary on April 12, another important itinerary was to break the ice between party MLAs and Aujla.

Sachar said that Aujla would file nomination papers on April 23 in presence of the CM and other Congress leaders. The CM would also accompany Khadoor Sahib candidate Jasbir Singh Dimpa during the filing of nomination papers the same day in the morning.

Meanwhile, Sarkaria said, “Just like the 2017 Assembly polls, the Congress will manage a clean sweep in the Parliamentary elections.”
