The Citizen Forum Amritsar on Sunday staged a protest at Hall Gate and condemned the Unnao rape incident and UP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

The activists took out a candlelight march and prayed for early recovery of the victim. They were addressed by Prof Parminder Singh, Jagroop Sekhon, women activist Kawaljit Kaur, former government medical college principal Dr Tejbir Singh and many others. The protesters demanded severe punishment for the accused.

The speakers said that political patronage to accused of heinous crimes should be stopped by all political parties. Farmers’ activist Rattan Singh Randhawa criticised the government for amendment in the UAPA stating that it would be used to suppress the voice of aggrieved people.

The protesters demanded financial assistance and employment for the kin of Unnao rape victim. They demanded that crimes against women should be checked with strictness and law makers should not be allowed to become law breakers.
