The police on Friday claimed to have solved the murder case of a woman with the arrest of three persons, including her husband.  The woman, Baljit Kaur, was strangled to death by unidentified persons in the New Azad Nagar on Wednesday.

The suspects have been identified as deceased’s husband Gurminder Singh, who is a CRPF Inspector posted in Chandigarh, Veerpal Kaur of Jalandhar and self-styled godman Gurwinder Singh of Dabwali. Two suspects Sukhdeep Singh and Desa are yet to be arrested.

Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said Gurminder’s illicit relations were the reason behind the murder.  The Police Commissioner said, “During an investigation, it was found that Gurminder and Baljit had strained relations and he had illicit relations with Veerpal. In order to get rid of Baljit, the accused in connivance with Gurwinder Singh planned to kill her. They gave Rs 5 lakh to Sukhdeep and Desa, who were followers of Gurwinder, to kill Baljit.”

The Police Commissioner added that on November 12, Veerpal showed the victim house’s to Sukhdeep and Desa. Both of them stayed in Amritsar at night and next day, they went to the victim’s house when her son left for the school.

They entered the house saying they have to give some goods given by her husband Gurminder. They called him up and asked her to talk with Gurminder.

“After entering the house, the accused strangled her to death and later, fled to Jalandhar. Initially, Veerpal gave them Rs 2 lakh for executing the plan and promised them to give the remaining amount soon,” he added.  The Police Commissioner said raids were on to arrest Sukhdeep and Desa.
