After sacrilege accused’s murder, security beefed up

BATHINDA: After Dera Sacha Sauda follower Mohinder Pal Bittu, an accused in sacrilege cases, was killed in the high-security jail in Nabha on Saturday, security was beefed-up at key intersections in the city on Sunday.

After Dera Sacha Sauda follower Mohinder Pal Bittu, an accused in sacrilege cases, was killed in the high-security jail in Nabha on Saturday, security was beefed-up at key intersections in the city on Sunday. Policemen also checked vehicles on Sunday.

Bathinda has a large number of Dera Sacha Sauda followers and keeping in view the current situation, the police have intensified a vigil across the district.

Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh said “Following the killing of Mohinder Pal Bittu in the Nabha jail, we have stepped-up security all across the district with specific extra arrangements at locations where we have received an input of a possible suspicious activity. Besides, the police have been deployed at busy intersections to keep a vigil.”

Policemen also carried out searches at the city bus stand and the railway station.

MF Farooqui, Inspector General of Police, Bathinda Range, said apart from police personnel, three companies of Central security forces had been deployed in the city.

Kuswant Singh, SHO, GRP, said, “After high alert was sounded, we have deployed all our personnel at the railway station. They are checking passengers and visitors. Besides, their luggage was also inspected. Apart from the entry and exit points, checking was done at the overbridge and platforms.”
