EC receives 38 plaints of poll code violation

BATHINDA: The Election Commission has received 38 complaints so far, while it has issued 17 notices for the violation of the model code of conduct in Bathinda. As per the complaint cell of the poll panel, out of 38 complaints, 34 have been disposed of, while four is pending.

The Election Commission has received 38 complaints so far, while it has issued 17 notices for the violation of the model code of conduct in Bathinda. As per the complaint cell of the poll panel, out of 38 complaints, 34 have been disposed of, while four is pending.

It has also come to notice that the EC is flooded with personal complaints, as no serious complaint regarding the polls has been received in Bathinda. Most complaints are of a general nature like government officials working for political parties and non-removal of posters and hoardings. 

Apart from this, the EC has also received personals complaint related to dowry and government officials not available on their seats etc. 

Deputy Commissioner  B Srinivasan said as per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the model code of conduct had been strictly imposed and 17 notices have so far been issued to various political parties for the violation of the conduct.

Of the 17 notices, nine have been resolved and 8 are under process and these would be disposed of at the earliest.

Divulging further details, the DC said till now, issued two notices have been issued to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has been issued six notices, of which four have been disposed of and two are being processed. The Indian National Congress (INC) has also been issued four notices and are being scrutinised as of now. 

 Even the Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) has been issued four notices and three of them have been disposed of, while one is still under scrutiny. Similarly, the Bharatiya Lok Dal has also been issued a notice.  

It may be mentioned that the social media is under the strict supervision of the Election Commission. 

A Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has been constituted which is closely monitoring the social media platforms for any objectionable content and advertisement which are to be pre-certified by the poll panel.

Besides keeping a tab on the expenditure of the candidates, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google, WhatsApp and Share Chat are under the vigil of the MCMC for any content that could vitiate the electoral process or disturb peace, tranquillity, social harmony and public order, and would invite strict action. 

Poll code has been imposed strictly: DC
