Jan Aushadhi Centres to come up in Malout, Gidderbaha

To bring transparency in the functioning and finances of District Red Cross Society, Deputy Commissioner MK Aravind Kumar, who is also the president of the society, on Thursday held a meeting in his office and reviewed the last year’s activities and future plans.

The DC said increasing the income of the society was the priority so that it could work better in the social welfare sector. “Red Cross Society will open Jan Aushadhi Centres in Gidderbaha and Malout to provide cheaper medicines to the public. Besides, the society will provide training to 1,000 volunteers in disaster management or dealing with any emergency situation,” he added.

He said it was the first time when the society’s budget was prepared and advance planning for income and expenditure was finalised. The society’s estimated revenue is Rs1.78 crore and expenditure is Rs1.64 crore.

Gopal Singh, secretary of the society, said last year, the society had set up three camps for the distribution of artificial limbs. “Medical assistance of Rs36,26,264 was also provided to the people and pre-primary kits were also provided in 324 schools,” he added. — TNS
