Mohali: The Chandigarh-Delhi flight of Jet Airways failed to take off due to technical reasons on Saturday. Later,  It could not depart from Chandigarh due to watch-hour restrictions as the take-off is allowed only up to 6 pm. As many as 67 tickets were booked and the passengers were left stranded at the airport. TNS

One killed in accident

Kharar: Avinash Thakur, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was killed while another youth, Punnet Sharma, was injured when their motorcycle was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle  on Landran Road on Friday night. According to the police, both were coming from the Zirakpur side. Both fell down after the vehicle hit them. Avinash Thakur died on the spot. Puneet Sharma was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali, from where he was discharged on Saturday. The Kharar City police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code. OC    

278 donate blood

Chandigarh: A total of 278 voluntary blood donors donated blood at PGI on Saturday. The Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association, PGIMER-GMCH, Chandigarh, organised its 177th Voluntary camp at Zakir Hall of PGI. The blood donors were honoured with mementoes. — TNS

Chandigarh: Students and research scholars of the Department of Biochemistry, PU, carried out an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day on Saturday. Prof Archana Bhatnagar, Chairperson, organised the activity under the Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat Mission. — TNS

Training on cyber security

Panchkula: The National Commission for Women (NCW) and the National Peace Foundation conducted a training programme for students of Government PG College, Sector 1, Panchkula, on Saturday. The training imparted as part of the Digital Shakti programme was aimed at providing information to students regarding threats of using cyber space.

Archana Mishra, principal of the college, urged the students to be careful while using cyber space and disclosing personal information on the internet. 

She said the students must report any crime related to cyber immediately. — TNS
