Mohali, June 22

A team of the health department on Friday issued challans to four persons for breeding of dengue larvae and not maintaining hygienic conditions. Meanwhile, a Nayagaon woman was diagnosed with dengue on Friday. She was admitted to the PGIMER where she is undergoing treatment.

As many as 46 such challans have been issued by the department so far. The department has sought more teams to check the conditions in dengue-prone areas in the outskirts of Mohali.

Shalinder, the nodal officer, said, “Starting July 1, teams will conduct survey of houses in Kharar, Nayagaon and Zirakpur and the civic body concerned will be informed about it.” She added that the decision was taken as most dengue cases were received from these areas. The teams will also issue challans to keep breeding of mosquitoes in check.

Shalinder said Mohali city was being surveyed since March. Health teams penalised those found maintaining unhygienic conditions. However, two of the three dengue cases received this season were from Kharar and Nayagaon. In addition, most cases in the past have also been reported from these areas and hence, they were focusing on these areas, she added.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation claimed to have started fogging the city.

Last year, Mohali had recorded the highest number of dengue cases in Punjab and was in the top bracket in 2016 as well.
