Chandigarh, June 12

City residents continue to face tough times due to the erratic power and water supply. Even though the Municipal Corporation officials claimed that the water supply would be restored to normal from today, several areas still faced water issues.

Residents said water pressure was low. Some areas did not get fresh water on fixed time. Yesterday, the civic body officials had said they had repaired the technical snag at the water supply line, but to no avail, they rued.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, Chairman, Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC), said, “They started the repair work in peak summer. They should have done it at least two months ago. For the past one month, water supply has not been restored properly. Sector 20 got water only for one hour in morning. Not only this, there were power cuts after every half an hour. The Electricity Department should upgrade the old system.”

“We are facing inconvenience due to frequent power cuts. Electricity was snapped from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. It was a tough day. There was some default in the wiring system in our area,” said Neha Sharma, a resident of Sector 47.

An MC water official said, “We have fixed the snag and the situation has started to improve. Water supply will be restored to normal soon.”

Superintending Engineer Ranjit Singh said, “Power issue is due to bad weather. We, at our end, are upgrading our system. Normal power supply will be restored soon. Our teams are also available to meet any exigency.”
