CHANDIGARH:The UT Excise and Taxation Department has attached the bank account of Ind Swift company after it failed to deposit Rs 66-crore tax and penalty to the department.

The UT Excise and Taxation Department has attached the bank account of Ind Swift company after it failed to deposit Rs 66-crore tax and penalty to the department.

The department had asked the company to deposit the amount by December 7. The Excise and Taxation Officer has issued the order for the attachment under the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887.

The Excise and Taxation Officer has also sought the details of other movable and immovable properties from the company.

Notably, this is for the first time that the department has resorted to invoking the provisions of the Punjab Land Revenue Act to recover dues.

Meanwhile, the Excise and Taxation Department has also started the process to recover Rs 1.85 crore as tax from a petrol pump, Brahamswarup and Sons. It has asked the petrol pump to deposit the amount before December 10.
