The Mohali police arrested a devotee at a local gurdwara on the charge of attempt to murder after he inflicted a deep cut on the forearm of another person with a double-edged sword and injured two others here today.

The accused, identified as Balwinder Singh, attacked Manjit Singh Bhatia, Bhupinder Singh and Joginder Singh, all residents of Phase VII here.

Manjit received a fracture and deep cut on his right forearm while the other persons received minor injuries.

Sub-inspector Rajiv Kumar, Station House Officer, Phase VIII police station, said the incident occurred at Dhanna Bhagat gurdwara, located opposite YPS at Phase VIII, at around 6 pm today.

The SHO added that all four persons came to pay obeisance at the gurdwara.

During their conversation, Balwinder was asked to participate in a community service at the gurdwara following which he got agitated and brought a ‘khanda’ (double-edged sword) from the gurdwara and attacked the trio,” the SHO said.

The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
