Mohali, October 22

A court today awarded four-year sentence to a Head Constable of the Mohali police in a corruption case here. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the cop.

The convict, Head Constable Ram Sanjeevan, was caught red-handed by Vigilance Bureau (VB) sleuths while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 for releasing a JCB machine and a tractor-trolley, which were confiscated for mining at the Mullanpur police station.

The convict had demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe from the complainant, Jang Bahadur. He alleged that despite court orders to release the vehicles, the Head Constable was not releasing these. Later, the deal was struck for Rs 10,000 and the VB sleuths nabbed him while accepting the bribe money at a tea stall near the Mullanpur police station. A case of corruption was registered at the Vigilance police station in Mohali.
