CHANDIGARH:Somveer of DAV College, Sector 10, created a new meet record in the pole vault event on the opening day of the Panjab University Annual Athletics Meet at the campus grounds on Sunday.

Chandigarh, October 14 

Somveer of DAV College, Sector 10, created a new meet record in the pole vault event on the opening day of the Panjab University Annual Athletics Meet at the campus grounds on Sunday. Somveer cleared 4.30m to set the record. Kulwinder Singh (3.80m) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, claimed the second position while Anuj (3.80m) of DAV College claimed the third position. 

In the shot put event, Paramjeet Singh of DAV College claimed the gold with a throw of 17.49m. Harjot Singh of GNN College, Daroha, finished second with a throw of 14.79m. Amit Bhaini of Saini Bar College, Bulhowal, claimed the third spot with a throw of 13.85m. In the women's category, Urmila of GGSC, Sector 26, claimed the top position with a throw of 12.03m. Maphi (9.27m) of DAV College, and Mamta Sharma (9.22m) of RGC, Ludhiana, claimed the second and third position, respectively. 

Gug Kaur of GTB Khalsa College, Dasuya, won the 1500m gold by clocking 5 min, 1.25s. Jyoti of JC DAV College, Dasuya, claimed the second position in 5 min, 1.31s, while Anamika of GTB Khalsa College claimed the third position in 5 min, 8.70s. —TNS
