Despite being partially visually impaired since birth, Ritik Goyal of the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, has scored 94.8 per cent in humanities.

“My sight did hinder my studies but it failed to dampen my spirit. Despite all the troubles I faced, I was determined to work hard from the very first day of Class XII,” Ritik said. Assisted by Braille books, he thanked his teachers for recording important lessons for him and providing him with meticulous notes. He lives with his mother, a government employee.

“I wish to pursue a degree in arts from Panjab University. My ultimate goal is to become an IAS officer,” he said. To distress, Ritik used to play chess and guitar.

Saurav Sauhta, a humanities student of the institute, scored 93.2 per cent. He had permanently lost vision in an accident while playing cricket in 2009.

“I went to the PGI for several years, but then I realised that my vision could not be fixed. Thereafter, I decided to join this. All teachers and principle had been incredibly supportive here,” he said.

Hailing from Himachal Pradesh, Saurav’s father is a farmer and mother a housewife. “I am currently preparing for BA LLB entrance exam in Panjab University. I wish to become a judge,” he added.
