CCET staff observe strike

CHANDIGARH: Contractual staff of the Chandigarh College for Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26, observed a strike in protest against the termination of services ofsix contractual employees for the joining of permanent faculty in December last year.

Contractual staff of the Chandigarh College for Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26, observed a strike in protest against the termination of services ofsix contractual employees for the joining of permanent faculty in December last year.

Twenty temporary contingency posts werealso approved by the Chandigarh Administration for the adjustment purpose. However, no adjustment was done due to the negative approach adopted by the principal of the college, the protesting employees alleged. Hence, the CCET Employees Union, coordination committee of the Government and the Municipal Corporation employees and workers under the chairmanship of convenor Rakesh Kumar started a strike to press the demandof revoking the ordersof the sacked assistant professors.

The employees are demanding a comprehensive policy for contractual teaching, non-teaching and outsourcing staff, who have worked for more than 3 to 12 years.

The association further stated that the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology,which was upgradedfrom Central Polytechnic by the Chandigarh Administration, failed in implementing the national policy of the HRD Ministry, Government of India, due to the non-transparency, lack of interest and inactive approach in its true spirit since 2001.
