Destination for donors, destitute

Residents and the district administration have set up “Neki ki deewar” to provide warm clothes to the poor and needy.

Set up in the Era residential colony in Sirsa, it was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar today.

“Those who have discarded used clothes can place them on this wall and those who need the clothes can take them away,” Brar said.

She said since winter was round the corner, many poor persons would have to suffer for want of proper warm clothes.

She said many people bought clothes in abundance and the old ones were neither used by them not could be put to use for others.

Hundreds rushed to “Neki ki deewar” to donate used clothes on the first day. Several poor persons were provided clothes as per needs.

Kaithal: “Neki ki deewar”, a wall erected by the local Bicycle Club near “Shaheed Smarak” in Kaithal, has become a star attraction for residents and is very helpful for the needy by providing used clothes.

It was formally inaugurated by state BJP executive member Rao Surinder Singh and municipal council Chairman Yash Pal Prajapati on Saturday.

The idea behind the wall was to appeal to local residents to come forward for donation of used clothes. They could hang their clothes on the wall so that the needy could take the clothes of their choice.

This appeal had the desired effect as scores of donors who wanted to dispose of their clothes started hanging those on the wall.

The needy had started reaching the place to select and take away used clothes of their choice. This noble gesture was handy for the needy as they did not have to beg.

The club members stated that it had been set up over a year ago at the initiative of then Kaithal Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang and Superintendent of Police Krishan Murari.

Riding bicycles early in morning with dozens of club members and some officials, they went to various localities of the town, heard public grievances and provided immediate redress.

The members were happy as the venture would not only motivate people to care for human values, but provide satisfaction to donors and the needy as well.

The club appealed to residents to come forward and contribute towards this noble cause by hanging used spare clothes on this wall.Club members include Sachin, Tek Chand Verma, Ramesh Prajapati, Naveen Malhotra, Rajinder Tanwar, Sharwan Kumar, Rohit Sharma, Om Parkash Sain and Sanjeev Gupta.
