A major fire broke out in Mani Majra late this evening. The fire started in a plastic goods godown near Mori Gate, before spreading towards Rana Ki Haveli, an old building housing a shopping complex in Mani Majra, and other areas.

As many as six fire tenders were pressed into service, but the fire could not be controlled till the filing of this report.

The fire department officials said they got a call at 9.36 pm that smoke could be seen billowing out of godown number 1513.

As the fire started spreading, fire tenders were called in from Mani Majra, Ram Darbar, Industrial Area, Sector 17 fire station, Sector 38 fire station and the Panchkula fire station. Two water boozers were also called by the department.

The vehicles were facing problem in reaching the venue due to narrow roads leading to it.

The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet, though it is suspected to be caused by a short circuit in the godown. The amount of loss, too, is yet to be ascertained.

“It’s only after the fire is doused, we can tell about the losses,” said fire officer SK Gosain.

No casualties were reported as the firefighters evacuated the adjoining buildings.
