Man booked for migrant worker’s murder

MANDI AHMEDGARH: The Dehlon police claimed to have solved the blind murder of a migrant agricultural worker whose body was found lying in paddy fields located on the outskirts of Khera village in Ludhiana near here on Friday evening.

The Dehlon police claimed to have solved the blind murder of a migrant agricultural worker whose body was found lying in paddy fields located on the outskirts of Khera village in Ludhiana near here on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Kumar (35) of Bihar. ACP Surinder Kumar said the Dehlon police had booked Upkar Singh of Khera village in Ludhiana as the main accused in the case.

Ramesh had allegedly given some money to Upkar for remitting to his (Ramesh) family in Bihar. Though Upkar claimed he sent the money through a nationalised bank, Ramesh asked him to repay the same as his family had never received the amount. Irritated over his repeated demand of money, Upkar allegedly killed Ramesh with a sharp-edged weapon and threw his body in the fields.

Earlier, villagers told the police that the body of a youth was lying in the fields. A police team led by SHO Dehlon Amandeep Singh Brar inspected the spot and found that Ramesh’s throat had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon. Area residents said the deceased was last seen with Upkar.

Brar said the police teams had conducted raids at the hideouts of the accused, who had been absconding.
