The forest and special operations task forces of the state police are camping in Jaulasal forests in the western Banbasa range after an illegal country-made arms factory was unearthed in the region two days ago.

The forest and special operations task forces of the state police are camping in Jaulasal forests in the western Banbasa range after an illegal country-made arms factory was unearthed in the region two days ago. The SSB have started patrolling the Nepal border to nab the culprits as the Banbasa forest range opens towards Nepal via Tanakpur forests. “We have alerted our border posts at Banbasa border with Nepal as the culprits could cross over to the neighbouring country,” said Rohitash Sagar, an SSB officer at Banbasa border post.

A total of 27 research projects in nine Himalayan states have been approved under the Prime Minister sponsored National Mission on Himalayan Studies to study the changing environment in the Himalayan region. “A sum of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for projects which will study uneven weather in the Himalayas in the past decades, besides the impact of climate change on glaciers and snowfall in the region,” said Dr PP Dhyani, Director of the GB Pant National Himalayan Environment Institute, Almora.

Kailash pilgrims honoured

The pilgrims of the last batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra were honoured by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) officers at Haldwani on Saturday. They were presented with bouquets and booklets on the glory of Kumaon. “A total of 714 pilgrims from 24 states have taken part in this year’s pilgrimage, which ended on Saturday,” TS Martolia, General Manager, KMVN, at Nainital, said.
