Spurned Faridkot man sets woman afire

FARIDKOT: After his marriage proposal was turned down, a man allegedly set on fire a 28-year-old woman at Bazigar Basti here on Saturday.

After his marriage proposal was turned down, a man allegedly set on fire a 28-year-old woman at Bazigar Basti here on Saturday.

The woman later succumbed to her burns at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital.

According to police, Babbu Singh and his two accomplices set Baljit Kaur, a member of an orchestra group, on fire after pouring kerosene on her. Babbu was angry after Baljit allegedly rejected his marriage proposal.

The woman with 80 per cent burns was rushed to the hospital where the police recorded her statement. On the basis of the statement, the police have booked Babbu and his two accomplices for murder.

Investigation officer Gurmit Singh said the police were looking for the accused and were trying to contact the victim’s family.
