Moga, December 19

Two Moga policemen have been booked and suspended for allegedly taking bribe from a chemist.

They have been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Baljinder Singh and Head Constable Surinderjit Singh, posted in the CIA-Staff, said a police officer.

Reports said they took a bribe of Rs 35,000 from Sushil Kumar, owner of Arora Medical Store, Kot-ise-Khan on October 10. On December 12, they again demanded Rs 1 lakh from Sushil by alleging that he was selling intoxicating drugs banned by the state government.

The chemist pleaded with the policemen that he did not sell banned drugs, but they threatened him of registering a criminal case against him. Fearing that the police men may register a false case against him, the chemist complained about it to the SSP who marked an inquiry to the SP (D) of the district. The SP took an affidavit from the complainant regarding the allegations and prima facie established the allegations made against the policemen.

On the basis of the inquiry, the police registered a criminal case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Kot-ise-Khan police station in the district. No arrests have been made so far.

ASI Baljinder Singh had refuted the allegations made against him by the chemist and claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case. “I have never taken or demanded any money from the chemist,” he said.
