Panchkula, October 24

Candidates selected for the post of assistant professor (computer science) have threatened to sit on a dharna near the office of the Director General, Higher Education, here on Thursday for its failure to issue them appointment letters.

Candidates Jitender Narwal, Naresh and Ashish Kumar said the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) had advertised 1,647 posts in 29 subjects for assistant professor (college cadre). The result for assistant professor (computer science) was declared in August 2017. More than 14 months hence, 156 selected candidates are still waiting for their joining letters. Narwal said that earlier, unsuccessful candidates had filed a case in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, challenging the selection criteria. The HC had granted stay in the matter.

“After the court vacated the stay on July 12, 2018, the HPSC directed them to report at the head office in Panchkula and sign their joining reports. The candidates were asked to resign from their previous jobs.

Kumar said, “Assistant professors in 26 subjects have already joined colleges, but only the appointment of assistant professors (computer science) is stuck.” The result for Hindi and geography is still awaited. — TNS
