Having been notorious for decades for fooling people by selling fake gold bricks, Mewat fraudsters have come a long way from the traditional Tatlu gangs.

From low-priced business deals advertised on websites to fake social media friendship and marriage proposals, fraudsters in the district are luring people from across the country to rob them or abduct them for ransom.

Given a whopping 60 per cent increase in such cases in the last one year, the Mewat police have cautioned people against such calls and offers.

The caution notice signed by Ferozpur Jhirka SHO Ashok Kumar had been circulated on social media, asking people to be wary of coming to the district lured by any online deals or friendship with women.

As per the notice, the police highlighted the fact that several gangs were active in the region, advertising cars on online portals at unbelievable rates to lure people.

The police warned that if anybody saw such an advertisement or was called to the district, he must be cautious and inform the police on designated numbers.

“Caution is better than resolution. The police have cracked down on many gangs. We believe that preventing a crime is more important that solving it. There has been a spurt in people being called and getting robbed or abducted, besides honey trap instances,” said the SHO. The warning was being circulated on all social media platforms.

Prior to this, the Rajasthan Police had adopted this method to deal with the menace in the Mewat region of the state. They had put up boards and flex sheets and raised awareness on social media.
