Cabs, PCRs in G’gram to be eyes of traffic cops

GURUGRAM: Taking a cue from Dubai, cabs and PCRs plying in the city will become eyes of the Gurugram police.

Gurugram, January 10

Taking a cue from Dubai, cabs and PCRs plying in the city will become eyes of the Gurugram police. The vehicles will be mounted with special video cameras that will live record the areas they traverse. The cameras will record traffic violations and, based on the recording, challans will be issued. The move aims to curtail violations that skip the attention of the cops.

“We are tying up with a company to make cabs and PCRs our eyes. This will ensure that traffic violations such as wrong parking, wrong side driving, lane jumping and red-light jumping are recorded even when cops are not present. This will strengthen our epostal challaning system, which lies toothless at present. The erring commuters will be penalised. Challans will be sent to their homes,” said a senior police official.
