Almost half of the Lok Sabha poll contestants have not submitted the details of their election expenses even as the deadline is just three days away.

While 14 out of the total 27 candidates, who contested the election from here, had submitted the details with the Election Expenses Monitoring Committee here, 13 others were yet to do so, said sources in the Election Department here.

According to reports, the authorities concerned have cleared the expenses sheet of as many as 12 candidates while details of the two others are under scrutiny.

The expenditure sheet is cleared after tallying the submitted details with the official record. Though difference has been detected in majority of the cases, the final amount of expenditure is filled in the official records after removal of discrepancy, if any, it is claimed.

Deepak Gaur, a contestant who has already filed his expenditure details, claimed that while he had spent a sum of Rs74,800, it was increased to Rs2.17 lakh due to a difference in the parameters he applied to calculate the expenditure and the ones the officials concerned had employed.

The highest expense limit on the election was Rs 70 lakh for each candidate.

“The Election Office will serve a notice to those who will jump the deadline or whose expenses surpass the limit,” said Dinesh Kumar, Election Tehsildar. Those not meeting the deadline were liable to be debarred from contesting the next election, he added.

Deadline June 22

  • The expenditure observer appointed by the Election Commission has asked the remaining candidates to meet the June 22 deadline
  • The candidates who are yet to submit the details of poll expenditure include the winning candidate Krishan Pal Gurjar (BJP), Avtar Singh Bhadana of the Congress and Mandhir Maan of the BSP
