The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has issued show-cause notices to the authorities of the Municipal Corporation and Public Health Department as the sewage of six nullahs of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri is directly falling into the Western Yamuna Canal (WYC).

Balraj Ahlawat, regional officer, HSPCB, Yamunanagar, said the sewage of the nullahs could not be directly released into the WYC.

He said the sewage of the nullahs should first go to sewage treatment plants (STPs) for treatment instead of directly going to the WYC.

“It came to our notice that the sewage of some nullahs in the Municipal Corporation area is directly falling into the WYC, thereby polluting its water. Therefore, we have issued notices to the authorities of the MC and Public Health Department recently,” said Ahlawat.

According to information, the water of the WYC is going in several districts of southern Haryana to fulfil the demand of drinking water and irrigation in those areas.
